Cam Newton says Atlanta would love to have Prime Time back

With Kirk Cousins in the fold, the Falcons have fixed their quarterback problem for at least a couple of seasons.

Atlanta structured his deal so that it effectively guarantees Cousins two seasons in Atlanta and maybe a third depending on the outcome of the first two. In an ideal world, Cousins will play out all four years of his contract and retire a Falcon.

However, hoping for the best case scenario is foolish. The Falcons must prepare for life without Kirk Cousins because they were just in quarterback purgatory, and we all saw how that went.

Nobody expects the club to find his successor in the first round of the draft in a couple of weeks. It’s not to say that player isn’t somewhere in the draft, but most believe the Falcons will focus on finding a prospect to groom behind Cousins next year, and the 2025 quarterback class has a couple of high-profile names, especially related to Georgia.

Carson Beck is the best returning thrower in college football, but another player with ties to Atlanta could be more intriguing — Shedeur Sanders.

Son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who was dubbed Prime Time in Atlanta with the Falcons, is someone who could turn the heads of Arthur Blank, Terry Fontenot, and Raheem Morris.

Somehow, it’s Panthers legend (and Atlanta native) Cam Newton that is voicing his support for Prime to continue his legacy with his son with the Falcons.

“If Prime can get Shedeur in Atlanta, all businesses including Magic City will be appreciative of that damn pick right there,” Newton said on Club Shay Shay.

Shedeur isn’t bashful of his talents either, dubbing himself a combination of the greatest quarterback of all time in Tom Brady, and the most iconic athlete of a period in Mike Vick.

“I’ll say it’s a mixture,” Sanders said. “Because I’m able to stay in the pocket and deliver the ball. I can play like Brady, but I’m also able to extend plays and if it’s not there, take it like Vick.”

“So it just depends,” he continued. “It’s funny whenever situations in the game occur, they’re like ‘Hey, you gotta be Vick tonight. … So then that’s when we bring our legs involved.

It’s just nice to be relevant again as a Falcons fan, but investing in a talent like Shedeur Sanders could bring the team back to the front stage of the NFL.
